Topic: “Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: Modelling, Control, Planning and Imagery”
Abstract: Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or drone has been an increasingly interesting topic for Research and Development with various applications in such areas as entertainment, search and rescue, surveillance and monitoring, defence, agriculture, and so on. This talk is focused on important technical aspects of UAVs, namely modelling, low-level control, formation, path planning, and vison-based inspection with UAV-captured images. Effective methodologies such as iterative learning sliding mode control, particle swarm optimisation, hierarchical convolutional neural networks, and how to apply them to UAVs will be introduced along with some recent results on control, planning and surface inspection using low-cost quadcopters. An application will be presented for a triangular formation of UAVs in inspecting a monorail bridge.
